Popular bar operator killed in his Nicoya hotel
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

A popular Nicoya Peninsula hotel owner died when robbers caught him in his home.

The victim was Percy Lee Wilhelm, known to thousands of expats as Lucky. A spokesperson for the Judicial Investigating Organization said that the man, a U.S. citizen, died from a knife

wound. However, informal sources said the man was beaten and then strangled.

The scene was the Hotel Oasis del Pacifico in Playa Naranjo on the east coast of the Nicoya Peninsula...

Wilhelm ran the hotel with his Singapore-born wife, Aggie. Both were well known in San José... they were associated with Lucky’s Piano Bar in the Balmoral Hotel for years...

...His wife was working at the hotel when Wilhelm was killed, sources said. She found the body. The door to the home appeared to have been forced. Investigators suspect that robbery was the motive because some household appliances were taken by the murderers.

...Wilhelm ran the Piano Bar at a time where there only were about four so-called Gringo bars in the downtown. So nearly all tourists here met him at one time or another.
